Why it’s important for black women to travel
When I was a little girl my mom used to work for a millionaire. It was an after-school program called I have a Dream. The purpose of the program was to encourage young black inner-city youth to attend college.
While in the program we would go on vacations for spring break, summer, and tour colleges.
It was a wonderful experience.
In my neighborhood, which was fully black at the time, we were the only family that was able to travel. That was almost 25 years ago.
Fast forward to 2019 and it is still a thing that black women do not travel enough!
We have families, work, school or growing up you weren’t exposed, FEAR, you name it, and I get it!
It is important to travel. It serves as a tool for self-discovery and provides a level of worldly awareness that initially you never had.
It advances a blaq gurl’s hopes of becoming and doing more. It is also important because it breaks the monotony of adult life.
Before social media, it seemed like black women travel was an abnormality. With social media sites like Travel Noire, Blaq Gurl Moves, Black Women Travel Too etc. they have shown great communities and stories of encouragement.
So let’s shake all the false narratives about black women and travel. If there is a place in your heart that you want to see go!! There are no two experiences that are the same! Go on that trip and make it your own!!
