Origin of our colors and logo

Everything we do has a purpose and a meaning, down to our amazing logo designs by XRT Design Labs to the colors that we chose for the company.

The logos in every iteration were created to give you a dose of Blaq Gurl Magick.  The Blaq Gurl Moves font is reminiscent of 1970’s Blaxploitation.  The Blaq Gurl Moves lettering invokes that very BLAQ feel as well as the elements of travel such as the Eiffel Tower, flip flops, luggage tags and of course, the globe.  Our flag (yes, we have created our own flag) is a rising sun over a sea with 13 rays, all symbolizing the founding members of Blaq Gurl Moves. Lastly and most obviously, our beautiful melanated Afro-headed mascot logo further invokes Blaq Gurl Magick with beautiful full lips, a luscious Afro and everything you can think of tying all of that to travel and Blaq Gurl Dopeness.

The colors were chosen purposely and with careful thought as well. As you read about each color, surely you will understand why we chose to have them represent our company.

Black is mysterious and protective

Black symbolizes how the world refers to us.  In color psychology, black means power and control, hanging on to information and things rather than giving out to others. Black can be seen as intimidating, unfriendly and unapproachable because of the natural power it exudes.

Black implies self-control and discipline, independence and a strong will, and giving an impression of authority and power.  Black is often associated with sexiness and seduction.

Black absorbs negative energy. It is useful to carry something black with you to protect you from harm and negativity when traveling or when going about your usual daily activities outside your home.

Black also symbolizes elegance and sophistication as well as an air of mystery and intrigue. It can also imply submission to another (in all realms), comparable to a priest wearing black robes in submission to God.

Black is the end, but the end always implies a new beginning.

Turquoise means open communication and clarity of thought.

The color turquoise helps to open the lines of communication between the heart and the spoken word. It presents as a friendly and happy color enjoying life.

In color psychology, turquoise controls and heals the emotions creating emotional balance and stability. A combination of blue and a small amount of yellow, it fits in on the color scale between green and blue. It radiates the peace, calm and tranquility of blue and the balance and growth of green with the uplifting energy of yellow.

This is a color that recharges our spirits during times of mental stress and tiredness, alleviating feelings of loneliness. It is a great color to have around you, particularly in an emergency, as it helps with clear thinking and decision-making. It assists in the development of organizational and management skills. It influences rather than preaching and demanding.

This is a good color to aid concentration and clarity of thought for public speakers as it calms the nervous system, gives control over speech and expression, and builds confidence. Turquoise encourages inner healing through its ability to enhance empathy and caring. It heightens our intuitive ability and opens the door to spiritual growth. It is the color of the evolved soul.

Turquoise has strong powers of observation and perception and can be quite discriminating. It has the ability to identify the way forward, the way to success, balancing the pros and cons, the right and wrong, of any situation. It is a good color to use when you are stuck in a rut and don’t know which way to move.

Orange is the color of adventure and social communication

The color orange radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow.  Orange relates to ‘gut reaction’ or our gut instincts, as opposed to the physical reaction of red or the mental reaction of yellow.

Orange offers emotional strength in difficult times. It helps us to bounce back from disappointments and despair, assisting in recovery from grief. The color psychology of orange is optimistic and uplifting, rejuvenating our spirit. In fact, orange is so optimistic and uplifting that we should all find ways to use it in our everyday life.

Orange brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life. With its enthusiasm for life, the color orange relates to adventure and risk-taking, inspiring physical confidence, competition and independence. Those inspired by orange are always on the go!

In relation to the meaning of colors, orange is extroverted and uninhibited, often encouraging exhibitionism or, at the very least, showing-off! The color orange relates to social communication, stimulating two-way conversations. A warm and inviting color, it is both physically and mentally stimulating, so it gets people thinking and talking!

Orange aids in the assimilation of new ideas and frees the spirit of its limitations, giving us the freedom to be ourselves. At the same time, it encourages self-respect and respect of others.
