The Purification of The Pen

The Purification of The Pen

Life is full of unexpected twist and turns; highs and lows. Over. the years I have found that journaling is one of my most effective and healing rituals as it helps me recognize patterns that may have led to a difficult situation or reflect on my success after overcoming a hardship.

It is often said that the pen is mightier than the sword. However, this is a quote used when seeking compensation after a bad customer service ordeal. Rarely do we ever discuss the power of the pen attached to documenting feelings, thoughts, aspirations, and ideas. Today, I look at a simple pen and I see the ability to shape and shift my circumstance.

Expressive writing is said to offer physical, spiritual and mental healing to those who practice it. Your personal writing does not have to follow any rules You don’t have to start by introducing yourself to God as Margaret, you need not only write about the things you are thankful for, you do not have to be kind or polite. The only requirement for journaling in a way that will heal you is that you must be real. Real deep, real dark, real transparent, and eventually you will feel really light or unburdened.

Perks of starting your journal journey

  • Recognition of triggers
  • Prioritization of fears
  • Holding yourself accountable with self-talk
  • Manifestation via the process of scripting

How to start

  • Get a journal that makes you feel empowered (as an emcee I use composition books)
  • Select your desired writing apparatus
  • Set time aside to write, it could be 1 minute or 1 hour; you decide.
  • Prep for the writing session via mediation (use music, aromatherapy, whatever makes you comfortable)
  • Date each entry.
  • Purge via the pen, let the words flow
  • Do not check yourself for grammar
  • Keep it a hunnid with yourself
  • Write in the same voice you would use while talking to your best friend.
  • Return to your entries; this will help you recognize patterns or growth

I recall there was a point in my life where I didn’t journal because I didn’t know how to begin. I would research the process for writing and keeping a journal; to the point where I did not start journaling. I cheated myself of many great years of writing because there are no rules to journaling. I want better for you! I want you to grab a pen and wield your power, you deserve your healing!
