SELF CARE: Maintaining Your Mental Health While the World Outside Rages
Amidst a global pandemic we find ourselves in the fight of our lives for racial injustice.
While it can be invigorating it can also be extremely mentally draining. Especially when, despite the marching and the protesting, the police are still killing.
There are a few steps you can take to maintain a sense of normalcy.
- UNPLUG: While you want to be informed, it is important to take breaks from media outlets and social media to avoid being overwhelmed.
- SLEEP: At least 2 hours before bedtime unplug and allow your mind to decompress and process.
- SAFE SPACE: Find a safe space where you can let go and feel. Allow yourself to cry, scream, and process. Write down what you are experiencing. Speak to your therapist.
- ROUTINE: It may be difficult to continue all of your normal activities due to social distancing and working from home, however, by keeping some parts of your normal routine you can maintain a sense of normalcy.
- COMMUNICATION: Carve out time to chat with friends and loved ones each week. Being able to laugh and talk is quite helpful for maintaining your mental health.
Take the time and space you need to relax, release, and restore. Your wellness is your priority.
